1、當“only+狀語”位於句首時，其後習慣上要用部分倒裝。其中，only後的狀語可以是副詞、介詞短語、從句等。（1）Only in this way can we learn English. 只有這樣才能學會英語。（2）Only then did I understand what she meant. 只有到那時我才明白她的意思。（3）Only by shouting was he able to make himself heard. 他只有叫喊才能讓別人聽到他。注意，在only後作狀語的是從句時，從句不要用倒裝，要部分倒裝的是主句。

2、在句首的only如果後面跟了副詞、介詞短語或從句等狀語，則主句用倒裝結構。如only後跟的是主語，就不用倒裝結構了。例如：（1）Only when the war was over in 1918 was he able to get back to work.（2）Only in this way can you learn English well.（3）Only after a bitter struggle was the aim achieved.

3、注意，only和所修飾的狀語如果不在句首，則不倒裝。如：The boy was helped out only when his father arrived in a then did he realize the importance of English只有在那時候他才意識到英語的重要性。
