早年生涯
阿麗莎出生於艾伯塔省埃德蒙頓市。自幼喜歡音樂，7歲就開始寫歌，9歲參加聲樂訓練，從而為歌手生涯打下基礎。
15歲的時候，阿麗莎參加了加拿大YTV舉辦的音樂選秀比賽——《未來之星》（The Next Star）節目，在第一季的最後晉級六強，一炮而紅。該節目旨在將全加拿大15歲以下最有才華的少年歌手召集起來，打造成為未來之星。可惜的是，阿麗莎沒能獲得冠軍。不過該季最終六強選手中只有她一人簽約正式公司併發行了多張專輯和單曲，獲得成功。
成為專業歌手
比賽之後，阿麗莎認識了音樂人Jamie Appleby。他同時還是Wax唱片公司的創始人，當他在網絡上聽到阿莉莎的歌聲和創作後，決定將她招入麾下。由於阿麗莎的出色表現，以及專業團隊的打造，她成為了一顆冉冉升起的加拿大新星。
Jamie和阿麗莎的團隊從2010年開始籌備專輯。專輯的大部分歌曲都是阿麗莎和Jamie寫成的。她還和Jesse Labelle、Billy Steinberg、Dave Thomson、Jeff Dalziel、Steve Fernandez、Kim Carnes、Marv Green等多位頂尖音樂人合作，共同錄製自己的首張專輯。

《孤獨再臨》（Alone Again）成為新專輯的首支主打歌。該曲翻唱改編了紅心合唱團（Heart）上世紀八十年代的名曲《孤獨》（Alone），但是更具有現代氣息。該曲作為阿麗莎的正式出道曲和第一張專輯首支主打歌，發行於2010年11月。該曲在加拿大榜的最高位置達到11名，在榜時間長達39周。在英國榜最高達到亞軍，在比利時榜最高達到25名。[5]  CRIA數據顯示，單曲《孤獨再臨》在全球賣出超過100萬張，在加拿大認證為雙白金唱片。《孤獨再臨》還獲得了一項2011年加拿大MuchMusic錄影帶大獎的提名。隨後她前往英國演出，並接受BBC等多家電台的採訪。
